Just as a note the Civ 5 Series won't be starting for about a week maybe less.Until I can get the hang of A new kind of series anyway.

ISWT Review: The Next Doctor

 

 

Holy crap I finally got off my ass and did this.Jeez even I didn't think I would.Anyways where were we? Oh yes the doctor blanked donna's memory and was incredibly depressed but in terms of outside of the series things were beginning to stir.After the false regeneration in the stolen earth people knew the end of the tenth's era was coming but no one knew when.And of course when the name of that years christmas special was announced to be the next doctor people went nuts.Now we all know that he didn't regenerate in this episode but what did happen and who did david morrissey play if not the doctor?Well let's start with the actual doctor here.

 

The Tenth Doctor(David Tennant)

 

While it's kinda odd that the doctor is business as usual after his rather depressing end of series 4(something I really hope doesn't get repeated during this years special) it really is business as usual for david though.Great performance as usual and I'm not really sure what else to say.It was just one episode so.....onto to the other doctor?

 

 

The Doctor? (David Morrissey)

 

David morrissey steals the show here.He's absolutly fantastic to the point where I honestly kinda wish he would be the next doctor.....Uh no offence matt smith.He's fascinating to watch and his character arc as we learn why he thinks he's the doctor as well as how he does is a tad predictable but very entertaining because of his impressive performance.I seriously started trying to find other things he's in after this because,and I know I sound like a broken record at this point but he is very good and his story is fantastic.A reason to watch this alone.

 

Mercy Hartigan(Dervla Kirwan)

 

She is a blast to watch,maybe not as much a Mr.Morrissey but very good.Her Interaction with the cybermen is great and as a villain she's very good at what she does.Seeming very sinister while being kind of understandable.Someone who was underappreciated and treated as less then a person and when the cybermen came a stompin' she decided to work with them to destroy those who had done her wrong.She's great as a character and her acting is quite good.Nice stuff

 

 

 

The Cybermen

 

This is where things get weird.There were alot of elements here that were either just introduced and came out of nowhere like the cyber shades(or as I like to call them big lipped aligator moments on legs) or the built oddly quickly cyberking.They do their job well and the stuff they do with miss hartigan is great but just alot of odd random moments really.Not bad just not great considering.Cybermen really do need a lead character to be with them like the daleks have davros.Mercy or lumic would have done well but both got more of a commuppance

 

 

Now because this is a one episode review it's tricky to really go into as long of a review as I usually do but I'll just give my basic opinion.This really is one of the best christmas specials so far and sans a few coming up one of the best period.I'd say third all in all next to end of time and christmas carol.the acting of both David morrissey and Dervla kirwin is excellent and the plot of the two doctors is genius.There are some missteps like the Morrissey's companion who doesn't get enough time to really know her even if she does have a very epic moment where she punches out mercy.Also her name is rosita and that was...well funny enough.Though as I said it's a very fun watch and is really a blast sans a few minor missteps.It's definatly worth a watch.

 

Anyways It appears that the doctor will appear next in the planet of the dead and as shall I.Till then.
